Antiracism Team

In 2020, our community created the Breakthrough ART (Antiracism Team). This group-- composed of Breakthrough families, staff and other stakeholders-- guides our efforts to transform our school into an authentically antiracist organization. The ART facilitates the implementation of a framework for antiracist, anti-bias education. They envision new structures of accountability to monitor the school's progress towards its antiracist, anti-bias goals. They foster community trust, reconciliation and reparation. They serve as a point of reference for families and educators and also provide a safe space for community members to bring issues of injustice to the forefront, especially in advocacy of children. This team grounds its work in abolitionist teachings that promote justice, healing, joy, and liberation for all Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, inclusive of all intersecting identities.

Members of the ART worked with Crossroads Antiracism to train themselves in disrupting systemic racism, supporting transformational values, and pursuing antiracist anti-bias education.
